| is a fuse necessary or even needed for an 8.4v battery, and does this mean I can put a 9.6v in instead? Its a large type if that pertains to the question... | |

| Yes the fuse is necessary. It prevents you from frying contacts. Now if you are going through fuses you may have a problem internally.
If it is just the one fuse, replace it. I have a few here you can pick up or you can go to radioshack and spend 2 bucks on a bag of 4 ceramic fuses.

| It should. It will either be inside a little white tube or a box. Is your gun not firing at all? | |

| no no I mean my wiring job just doesnt have a fuse, it fires fine but when I took it apart it didn't have a fuse at all.
The question from before is because Im actually trying to figure out how to fit my slightly too big large type battery into an AK stock and I noticed it had a fuse and I didn't know why because my SCAR didn't have one.

| I rewired my echo 1 from the front grip to the crane stock and did not need a fuze. I didn't have room for it anyways. The gun runs and works fine without it. | |

Yes the gun will work fine with out a fuse. But the fuse is there to protect the switch and motor if lets say a short were to occur because of wire chaffing or faulty contacts. Protect the motor, and you protect your gears, piston and even your gearbox shell.

| and also protect it from a potential battery fire/explosion... In any case, I need an AK battery that will fit in the stock I have on the gun, wanting to trade a almost brand new Tenergy 8.4v large type for it btw. | |

| God...what a long and drawn out thread for such a simple question.
The question was if a fuse was necessary. The gun can work without a fuse, therefore, it isn't necessary. Just never go over a certain voltage, and never fire the gun when the battery feels warm or appears to be running low.
/thread
Also, there are a lot of misconceptions about airsoft batteries that I have noticed. Electricity = Electricity
It doesn't matter if the battery is a large type, mini type, lipo, car battery, a nuclear reactor, whatev. As long as the output voltage and current is within the gun's operating parameters, it should be fine; it doesn't even matter what the capacity(mah) is. People are always asking me "Do I need special wiring to use a Lipo?" No, again, as long as the rating is within parameters, it it fine. 9.6v lipo = 9.6v nimh = 9.6v nicad (even with different mah)

| There is no such thing as a 9.6v Lipo... there are 3.2v, 7.4, 11.4 and so on. | |

there are 3.2v, 7.4, 11.4 and so on. No one MAKES 9.6 Lipos, but they can and, undoubtedly, do exist. You missed the entire point of my post and only strengthened my claim that there is a large misconception about batteries. If they have a 3.2v lipo, they obviously have a 9.6v. 3.2 is a factor of 9.6; attach three cell units together.

| Before everything exploded then turned into political correctness and technical mumbo jumbo, I associated at 9.6v with a Lithium Polymer battery which was way out of context.
But then again I also found this if it has any relevance:

-shrugs- >_> does this mean both of you are right?
